1813 Test Game:

With only about a half day available to us; Casey, Joe and myself decided to play a quick game to make sure we had the new NB2 rules down.  Both sides took about 2 Corps and went at each other in a basic Meeting Engagement style battle.  This was also a test game for my new felt table.  Note: For more information on how to make a felt table click here.

While the felt table worked out great...the allied performance was terrible.  Suffice it to say, the French were able to crush the Prussian Corps before the poorly deployed Russian Corps could bring home its assault.  Having said that, the game was still fun with a few exciting events taking place.

This was also the first game where we used the messenger rule.  We all really enjoyed using the rule and will probably use it for all multi player games in the future.

My first felt table

This was a basic meeting engagement with 4 towns (objectives) located along the middle of the table.

The Russians set up on the East side of the river while the Prussians prepare to assalt the town just ahead of them.

Russian Light Cav and Cossacks have orders to get around to the rear of the enemy

French forces move through the towns to the West and start to turn the Allied flank.

Most of the battle centered around this lonely town on a hill.

Joe attempts to destroy the Prussian I Corps with his "Mega Tape Measure"

The Russian cavalry make their way around the French flank

Diaster! The French Guard Heavy Cavalry catch an artillery battery in the open and Limbered!

A brigade of Prussian Light Cavalry on react, intercepted the French cavalry as it reached the panicked Russian artillery crewmen. Unbelievably, it was able to force a bounce for both cav units thus protecting the artillery and most likely the entire Russian Corps

A French Young Guard brigade moves into the town...and pretty much stays there the entire game...despite many attempts from the Prussians and Russians

Still turning....Russian cavalry finally cross the river...only to meet a Saxon Heavy Cavarly unit (not pictured) that ends their short ride to fame

This was one of the crucial battles that set the tone for the rest of the game.

Although not pictured, the French rout the Prussian infantry as well as the two 12 lbrs. After this, the game just got worse for the Allies.

After this last picture, the game quickly deteriorated for the allies.  On the following turn, a French Light Cavalry unit was able to rout a Prussian Guard unit holding the left flank (it failed its prone/square roll).  After this, it was able to recall and charge right into my tightly packed "rout park"  It dispersed via moving combat: two 12 lb arty crews,  a Prussian infantry brigade and Cavalry brigade.  At that point, the huge flanking movement of the Russian Cavalry division had failed and the Russian Corps was still struggling to form up for its attack on the town on the hill.   Seeing most of the Prussian Corps fleeing or destroyed, the remaining Russians lost heart and turned for home.

Great game by Joe and Casey!  They had a good plan and stuck to it.
