Battle of Marengo

Joe and I decided to play a small game one Saturday afternoon and Marengo fit the bill.  After some amazing rolls on the allied side, and really bad luck on the French side, the game ended with a French "Broken Army".  The army break point was reached before the French reinforcements could come on and bolster the numbers.  After playing this scenario, we decided that the French would have to immediately pull back (to prevent too many losses) and wait until the reinforcements could come up...not something obvious or intuitive to a first time player of the scenario.  An aggressive (and lucky) Austrian commander could force a French "Retreat"  through army moral.   This is what happened in our game...although not by design.  Armed with this knowledge, we may attempt to play the scenario again in the future to see if we get a longer game.  Having said that, both sides enjoyed this bloody and very short battle.

Below are a few random pictures taken during the game.  Essentially, the allies pushed across the river to the left while pinning some of the French in the center.  As noted above, a few lucky rolls later and the French were in a bad spot.  A few more lucky cavalry attacks and most of the French Corps was routing which caused the rest of the army to break.
