He pledged to capture the Hembres Bridge and avenge the death of his mentor, Count de Bracy and marched off with his host toward destiny. His army was much the same as the ill-fated First Army of the River Grismere with the exception of a levy of mounted yeoman sergeants financed by funds from the recently captured Mines of Groderick Redbeard. Marching north with the Paladin General were the following forces: Grail Knights of the Grave Visage Banner of Defense Knights of the Northern Quest a band of Questing Knights Valorous Standard Knights of the Northern Lights - Knights of the Realm War Banner Storm Riders 3 Pegasus knights Woodsmen of the North Woods a unit of peasant bowmen Men at Arms Ruperts Roughnecks Lady Maria and Lady Annette, Level 2 Mages, Sisters of the Well of Light Sir Rodney Perilfield - Grail Paladin on a Pegasus Sir Lionel Twain Grail Paladin and Battle standard bearer with the Banner of the Lady Bonus Mounted Yeomen Rogers Riders Second Battle of Hembres Bridge The Army of the River Grismere II, approached the Hembres Bridge. The Dark Elf banners came into view. Sir de Vere was a bit disappointed that the banners bore the heraldry of a different Dark Elf general. His antagonists from the prior engagement must have marched southward toward the mines. As before, the evil elves occupied the high ground. Before the General could order a deployment of his forces a great gale struck the field. The sky turned black and far above the opposing forces a huge boulder lay suspended in mid-air. The horses and peasants were a bit shaken. The cube of destiny! gasped Lady Annette. The two damsels began to immediately pray to the Lady. The gigantic boulder in the sky did indeed appear to be hone into the shape of a giant block with evenly cut sides as if a giant stonemason had chiseled it from the very mountains of Dalriada. The boulder suddenly began to spin wildly in the sky. An evil elven voice cackled, Four for Darkness! Four evil red eyes appeared on the boulders face and the dark clouds formed the ghostly images of four Cold One Knights. These ethereal figures struck the boulder which began moving ominously toward the Bretonnian host. Then, a mist began to rise from the glen. A thousands sparrows swooped and swirled in the winds and sang as one. To the astonishment of those below the song was in the voice of a beautiful maiden. Five for the Light! they sang. The sun appeared and a huge rainbow spanned the sky. Across the rainbow bridge rode five enormous knights on gigantic chargers bearing the de Bracy coat of arms. The five stuck the boulder above the Bretonnian army stopping its momentum. Four lances pierced the red eyes on the boulder and the fifth buried itself in the center of one face. The dark cloud figures of the Cold Ones, dissipated into a light mist that gently fell on the field. What happened next was not gentle. The knightly figures drove toward the elf horde with the boulder impaled on their lances. Their lances dipped as they approached the elf positions, which were beginning to break formation. The elf general on a huge dragon took to the air. The figures of light brought their chargers to an abrupt halt and the boulder slid from their lances and plummeted toward the ground. The dragon took the boulder in the chest and broke into 3 pieces. Its rider squashed against the face of the stone like a bug in a charging knights visor. The shadow from the descending stone blacked the enemy positions and struck with a thunderous crash and sinking into the ground as if it fell on water. The gulf in the land caused by the stone filled almost instantly with water, forming a new lake. Many elves that survived the impact were floundering in the waters in their armor. Pale feminine hands rose from the lake and pulled most of them under, never to surface. The few who made it to the northern bank fled the field in great haste. Sir Geoffrey turned toward the Lady Annette. Nice rock. Lady Annette blushed, Why Sir Geoffrey! Note: Due to the high number of battles and limited amount of time, the Second Battle of Hembres Bridge was determined by the Cube of Destiny. The Bretonnians were blessed by the lady with a roll of 5 versus a 4 for the evil ones.
